In mid-March, Habitat Berks announced the cancellation of the 5th Annual Birdhouse Challenge, the closure of the ReStore, and the cancellation of subsequent donation pick-ups. Construction was also temporarily suspended and our homeowner education programs shifted to online. Some staff members were laid off, and the remaining began working remotely.

Our story during this time is not unique and our top priority remains the health of our community, in spite of the financial challenge. We are grateful that we were the recipients of small business loans as well as grants from The United Way of Berks County and The Berks County Community Foundation. These organizations and individual donors helped us keep our doors open during these difficult times.

Today, our construction work resumes, our staff have returned to work and are in the office more frequently. The Goggleworks, where our office is located is open on a very limited basis. Visitors to our office must make an appointment.

The ReStore opened on June 6 and people were lined up at the door the entire day! The reopening resulted in the best sales weekend in our history.

This newsletter tells some of our stories.
